Your pet lim-lim is useless unless you are fighting cranium rats. Then it will supposedly attack them. About the Codex, dunno. I thought it was just supposed to get you 1,000 xp. Maybe some of the other people posting here can help. :( The scroll you found is probably the wish scroll. I don't know too much about it as I didn't find it, but it can get you items or stat increases, I think. You have to be a lvl 13 mage or something (maybe double specialized) to identify it.
