Tormented party

by Calis - 03/22/00 14:56 EST

Leo informed me that his Tormented party project is going to start ASAP. He has written a little prologue for it now. What is this project you ask? Well, basically, what happens is that you yank a savegame off his site, play for a while, then send him a later savegame, together with a new chapter for his Torment story. So basically what we'll get is one big Torment story, written by different players. It's really cool. Check it out, and by all means, participate!

He also has a little contest running...

Scott updates his Designer Notes

by Calis - 03/18/00 06:45 EST

... so head over to his site and read 'em. Scott Warner is a designer at Black Isle Studios who is currently working on Icewind Dale. He is also involved in the preliminary design work on a game that is currently unannounced.

The designer notes update is a bit of a rant about an article some guy wrote. I can't say I blame Scott for getting into a bit of a rant here...

Feargus interviewed

by Calis - 03/14/00 05:59 EST

Fergiewergie, Big Boss at BIS, has been interviewed at Evil Avatar. The interview mainly deals with the Lithtech engine. A very interesting read. Here's a little quote to get your attention:

Evil: There is a rumor going around that Black Isle will be using the LithTech engine to create a 3D version of Fallout. ie, Fallout 3. Can you / Will you comment on that rumor?

Feargus: I've heard the rumor about Fallout 3 as well. :) Since we aren't working on it yet, I can't really say if that is definitely what we are going to do. I am sure it will be on the table as to one of the possibilities when the team working on Icewind Dale finishes up. As to whether we will use the Lith Tech engine - again without us working on it yet - I can't really say for sure. At that point the Stonekeep II and/or the Neverwinter/Aurora engine might be done and we would need to choose the best engine for the game that we would want to make. It's important to point out that we don't have an agreement with Bioware to actually use their engine, so we'd still need to work that out with them if we wanted to go with the Neverwinter/Aurora engine.

by Calis - 03/07/00 14:00 EST

Scott Warner, Black Isle designer dude, just updated the designer notes section of his site. He mainly talks about some scripting in Torment. It does contain a few spoilers, so don't read this if you haven't finished the game... (yeah right :-) )

LITHTECH ENGINE!!!!!!

by Calis - 02/23/00 06:07 EST

Check the new update on Scott Warner's site. Scott Warner is a designer for Black Isle studios, and he is currently hard at work on Black Isle's next project, of which little is known.

- end of fact, start of speculation -
I was so sure it wouldn't be Fallout 3, but this changes everything. As a good webmaster, I tried to bully all available Black Isle people into giving me more info, but to no avail. So the option of another Planescape game is still open, but I doubt that is what they're working on. My guess? Well, several Black Isle people have said in the past that they would "probably" do Fallout 3, and that it would use a 3D engine... oh well, we'll just have to wait and see... damn those computer game dudes for giving us little scraps of info :-)

Grumpy Gamer

by Calis - 02/15/00 10:26 EST

Jeff Vogel, creator of the popular Exile games, just posted his new column on CGO, about (you guessed it) Torment. (news source: GA-RPG)

I have to write about Planescape: Torment. There's just no way around it. It's just too big a deal. It's a brilliant game. Its amazing points are so amazing that its flaws barely register on the senses. It's packed full of creativity, good ideas, and scenes and conversations that genuinely register on the emotions.

And why is that? Because of words.
