Unlike her occasional partner in oddness, Kraal is not a bloodstained veteran of numerous battles across the Lower Planes and the Outlands. Instead, she's a native of Sigil, a professional thief and minor sorceress. The two of them ran into each other in the Outlands, where she was busy breaking into a place he was trying to break into. (Granted, she was being sneaky and he was carving up guards.)

A moment later, they were facing each other over blades. He throttled down his bloodlust just enough to not kill her, but get what he was looking for and run. The problem was they were looking for the same thing...

(The entire situation resolved itself when she stole it from the person that Melanth stole it for. This turned out to not be a problem, as the White Blade wanted the Stone of Ages he had (which wasn't the real one) turned over to his enemy, the Lord of the Tridents, for the purposes of exploding and killing the Lord of the Tridents.) Kraal managed to escape the revenge actions by the expedient nature of hiding out.

The two of them had their paths cross a number of times, and ended up being hired by a mysterious individual for the purposes of documenting the quest of the Nameless One and his cohort. Those in the know in Sigil give them five to three odds against living through it. But they've managed to beat the odds so far...

(Besides, he'd never admit it, but Melanth feels protective of the younger, smaller tiefling and tends to carve up anything that attacks her. As opposed to carving up anything that attacks HIM, which he does as a matter of course.)
