Born in Sigil, raised in Sigil, Spider quickly learned how to take care of
himself. It's not that he didn't have
parents or friends, it's just that in the Cage you can't really trust anyone
but yourself. At least not in the long run.
Not being the biggest kind on the block, that meant he had to find another way
to survive than fighting and since
he was pretty agile, he became a decent thief. He didn't like the idea of
trying to take things from peoples
pockets, too risky and to little profit, so instead he learned how to pick
locks and climb walls to get into houses.
He grasped the climbing part very well, and from that he got his nickname.
These days no one, except maybe his
parents and himself, remember his real name.
Being a bit too curious by nature can get you into trouble, especially in
Sigil. This Spider learned the hard way.
Getting caught once too many reading in the act becuase he just had to see what
the next room had to offer
(when his bag was allready full) made him a hunted man. He never got caught,
but his description started
circulating and it was just a matter of time before the Mercykillers started
paying him attention. At that time
Spider figured that Sigil was a bit too hot for him and left. He followed a
caravan through one of the portals and
ended up in Bytopia. There he met a Illusionist named Gra'ak and they quickly
became friends. Both being
cagers by Origin, they had the same view on life. Neither of the two were
inclined to return to the Cage any time
soon for reasons they never told eachother (as I said, they did have the same
view on life) so they traveled the
Planes together, just to see what was out there.
Through their travels, Spider grew more and more fascinated by Gra'aks use of
the Art. So fascinated he decided
to start learning them himself. This did not pocessa problem since Gra'ak was
a willing tutor. They traveled
together for two years and all the time Spider was getting better and better at
magic. Finally he and Gra'ak both
realized that he was progressing fast enough to not need Gra'ak around much
longer. Again, both being Cagers,
they knew better than to count on old friendship meaning anything and decided
to go separate ways before one
of them would find a knife in his back. Gra'ak kept exploring the planes and
Spider returned to Sigil, figuring it
was safe enough now. To say that he was homesick would have been a lie, but
nonetheless, he wanted to return
to the Cage. Once a cager, always a cager.
He had enough riches from his traveling with Gra'ak to get a small house for
himself. Actually he could have
gotten a bigger house, but he didn't want to draw that much attention to
himself, he knew all too well that thieves
prefer the bigger and fancier places. However, settling down and taking it easy
is just not his style and it is only a
matter of time before he'll get himself into trouble again.
